It’s impossible to think of the 1960s without the iconic image of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin
standing on the desolate surface of the moon. That boundary-shattering feat, and so many more that followed, would not have been possible without the work that took place at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Explore a brief history of this facility and its main attractions and, when you’re ready to let your imagination soar, schedule a ride with Signature Transportation Group Central Florida, and let us take care of the rest.

History

Established on Merritt Island to provide support for the lunar landing program in the early 1960s, the Kennedy Space Center, named for Pres. John Fitzgerald Kennedy in 1963, is one of ten NASA field centers and one of the largest open to the public. The center was instrumental in providing launch operations for the Apollo, Skylab, and Space Shuttle missions throughout the second half of the 20th Century and is the point of departure for hundreds of scientific and commercial missions dedicated to expanding humanity’s knowledge of the world beyond our atmosphere to this day. The work scientists perform at Kennedy, in conjunction with efforts at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, expand the potential for manned and unmanned expeditions into the future.

Main Attractions

Visitors in the thousands come to the Kennedy Space Center every year to explore the history of human space exploration and to learn about NASA’s plans for the future of humans in space. Among the current top attractions are:
