Chicago Airports Guide

If you want to make sure your Chicago arrival or departure goes off without a hitch, it’s important to choose the right airport. But, how do you know which is best for your trip? Whether it’s best to go with Midway or O’Hare depends on where you’re going. Certain carriers only fly to one or the other, so make sure you double-check your flight info before you leave home. Read Signature Transportation Group‘s Chicago airports guide below for more info!

Quick Chicago Airport Information

Midway

O’Hare

O’Hare International Airport (ORD)

O’Hare is one of the busiest airports in the world, with more international flights offered than Midway. Covering some 7,627 acres, O’Hare has non-stop flights to 228 destinations in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. It’s located on the Northwest side of the Chicagoland area, and is accessible from I-90 and the very end of the CTA Blue Line. Carriers that operate from O’Hare as a major hub include American Airlines, United Airlines, and Frontier.

O’Hare Airport Facts

  • Longer CTA ride — about 50 minutes on the Blue Line from the Loop
  • Multiple food court areas and restaurant options before and after check-in
  • Rideshare between your home and O’Hare could cost more due to longer distance
  • Offers far more international flights on more carriers
  • Neon-lit moving-walkway tunnel that connects concourses B and C is visually iconic

Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW)

Midway is your best choice when it comes to shorter flights within the US. If your flight is only two to three hours, you’ll find that the short lines and relatively small footprint of Midway make flying much more convenient. Southwest Airlines, a smaller airline that offers mainly domestic flights, serves Midway but not O’Hare. Because it’s closer to the city than O’Hare, traveling to and from Midway, especially with Signature Transportation Group, tends to be much less stressful and expensive.

Midway Airport Facts

  • Easy-to-navigate curbside drop-off area
  • Convenient for routine business travel
  • One main food court area before check-in
